I keep asking my self the same question over the past few months...how can a team that thrashed Real, Man U and the rest of the prem teams in the 2nd half of last season be so different. Surely the loss of Xabi was massive, but it can't be the sole reason. Injuries and bad luck have had a factor in the results, but to be fair during the pre-season and our first few games, we were just a completely different side. The main thing for me (and may be the players as well) that we just knew we will win matches last seasons. That drive and believe led us to so many magical last minute wins. However, this season, there is no fight, and no desire in some cases. It feels like that battle of last season has emotionally drained the players. I completely agree that had G&H invested real money to transform the team and buy another 2 quality players in addition to Johnson and AA, the believe and desire may have been reignited. I am happy to write off this season if I knew the investment will come at the end of the season, but I fear the gap will get wider and the investment will get less and less. I can see gloomy years a head of us and without Rafa, they will be even worse!

In a world where the words Legend, Great, World Class, Super Star, Role Model are well overused, Stevie deserves to be called every one of these if not more. Except for the summer following Istanbul (where it was not his fault entirely but Parry had his own agenda), he has been a great servant for the club. It will be tragic if he finishes his career without a PL medal.

I just looked at Europa league tables and God it depressed me some of the names there and how we will be associated with them over the next few months! If nothing else, it will improve my European Geography! But seriously, I hope we go for it with our best team and try and win it. It will be good to win a trophy this season and winning breeds confidence and we deserve a final as we have not had one for almost 4 years now!

I am same as you Chili...he was a good servant for 5 years. Pivotal player last season and it is not his fault that his sale money was not reinvested completely. Rafa touted him to European clubs the season before and to be fair for a Spanish player, if Real came calling, then it is inbuilt into them that they can't say no! May be if he left to go to Arsenal, United or Chelsea, my view would be different of him, but Xabi...thanks for the memories, thanks for Istanbul and thanks for 5 fantastic years.
