Saw a passage of play from yesterday (on the telly) and he (Suarez) showed for the ball by backing into the defender - using a basketball terminology he was "posting-up" his marker. That is proper forward play which would basically have allowed him to turn his man as soon as he got the ball. PS: howdy!

Agree about the first two points. The third one is where I have doubts regarding the squad as it is - from not having a player who can dictate play like Xabi did (not many in the world who can though I realise) to Carragher forcing the defensive line to play deep and him being dogs**** on the ball. There is also the attitude of the manager towards killing off games - keep it open and go for more goals, or suck the life out of the game with more defensive tactics etc.

My underlying impression is that life under Kenny has been like that for the most part - very exciting going forward, but no controlling and shutting out games the way Rafa's Liverpool could (and did mostly). More importantly I don't think we have a midfielder who can do so - Lucas is not that player, Adam is too adventurous in his use of the ball. Gerrard I fear is not going to start doing so at his age unless he's had the last 6 months to study and understand the craft of dictating the tempo (not just 5th gear) of a game. If we are clinical most games this wouldn't be an issue so one could say it's down to form / luck of the players when it comes to finishing...

Not for me. I want him playing just off the front man (Suarez). A front 6 (4-3-3) of Lucas, Adam, Gerrard - Downing, Suarez, Bellamy (or Kuyt) would be tasty. Carroll did well too I have to say. And point to note is that Gerrard used to link well with Crouchy - I think him playing off Carroll might be good for the team, and also Carroll, since Stevie is less selfish than Suarez.

My initial post was in response to a ludicrous suggestion that it wasn't a foul, that Parker was not stopped in his tracks (intentional or not) by a careless swipe by Adam. I can see why it's a card - Parker was taken out (it appears that people are taking exception to this term, as if it must be intentional if someone is "taken out"???) with a knee high follow through. No intention, but it ended up being a slightly dangerous challenge. That first yellow was soft though.

I'd post the video but can't be ar$ed. Are you really saying that Adam didn't take Parker out with a knee high "challenge", after the latter nicked the ball ahead of him? If so, I'd like to know what would constitute as a foul.
