a couple of my colleagues are still saying he's useless...then again they are Spurs fans so what do they know eh...

Immense today. Brendan also singling him out for a superb performance; great management on his part.

That shot from Lallana was superb. Didn't appreciate how good that save was until they showed the replay from behind the goal.
-
you are kidding, right?
-
Agreed. It's about application which is both easy (not physically difficult to execute) and difficult (he probably doesn't understand the concept).

Best in the league along with Courtois in my opinion. Lloris better with the ball at his feet and sweeping up, Courtois slightly better on shot stopping and presence.

Feels amazing that we don't have to worry about outgoing players determining if we can make signings. Losing Arbeloa, Sami and Alonso in 2009 and not being able to replace them properly and fill out the squad with quality - what a different place we are right now. And what's possibly even more pleasing is you can see very clearly the thought process and strategy in recruitment.

Yup. I think if he has experienced some form of failure in another part of his life, he would learn to appreciate his talents. But it needs to come from within and one hopes that at some point it will all click in his head.

I just saw a highlights reel of him and now finally understand what the fuss is about. What a natural talent he is. If only he had any idea how lucky he is to be able to play football the way he does. Shame he's an idiot...

Think Neville did some analysis on our game the following evening, and suggested had Agger been on the pitch he might have gone forward with the ball instead of passing it straight back to Gerrard...
-
Break the bank for Hugo Lloris. He'd improve our possession play from the back, and allow our defence to push up further. And he's a wonderful shot stopper.

Genius!

I'm waiting for it to go crazy, and this sounds like the most likely scenario. We NEVER do easy. But that's why this club has had so many special moments - no football club does drama better than LFC.

From what I have seen in these past two seasons, he has everything. Excellent shot stopper, good with the ball at his feet, very proactive, commanding, and reads the game well. And bloody brave too. For me, he'd be perfect for our team.
-
He played through pain for us, I recall him saying he should have rested that ankle until it healed properly, in hindsight. Him and Houllier felt the team needed him even at 50% fitness/ability... Problem is it never healed properly and led to worse injuries. Let's not forget that he chose us, his boyhood club, ahead of Man Utd and other teams who apparently offered him more money.

It's the football gods I fear most. Win this game and I'll be convinced we're winning the league.

Lloris is the stand out keeper in this league for me. Excellent shot stopper, reads the game well and is good on the ball, and also aggressive when coming for it.
-
There's a keeper on our books who's excellent on the ball, not the worst shot stopper around and has pretty good command of his area...

Very decent performance from Jones indeed. The team looked comfortable with passing the ball to him and he was calm with ball at feet. Unfortunately that says more about Mignolet than it does Jones, who when deputising for Reina the last couple of seasons gave everyone the jitters. Perhaps he's improved a lot but I suspect not to such drastic levels. If we are looking to focus on playing a possession focused game which involves a keeper who is comfortable on the ball, and a high defensive line which involves coming off his line and perhaps also commanding his area, then we need to look for a new goalkeeper (not sure it will happen until '15/16, nor should it given we have other areas to fix/upgrade). Fantastic shot stopper though but having seen Reina at his very best, I'm spoilt and would like to think we can eventually get a keeper who is almost as good a stopper, but a significantly better footballer.

Someone one here was constantly saying he was better than Johnson a couple seasons ago...

At 2-1 I felt like this match could go one of two ways as far as the effect on our season goes: 1-0 Benayoun 08-09 4-4 Arshavin the same season

Not been very good (compared with last season's sublime form) up until the last few weeks, but he's peaking at the right time.

So many key points in his career already; 1. His very impressive debut against City 2. The meltdown against Sunderland in the 11-12 season opener 3. The deer in headlights game against Blackburn that season 4. The scapegoat performance against Arsenal earlier this season 5. That superb derby performance at left back a few weeks later 6. Wonderful passing and all round display in today's demolition of the league leaders For me, the most impressive feat is making the fans (or at least myself) feel so assured when he's on the pitch. We have a very sensible footballer who is tactically aware, loves defending, isn't afraid of advancing up the pitch, and most importantly has very understated ability on the ball. The two or three arrowed passes from deep (after our set pieces were cleared) were magical; if Alonso or Gerrard made those passes we'd still be raving about them.
-
Absolutely willing Hendo to put it in - the through ball reminded me of the goal against Villa last season. But the shoulder turn and little flick that took him away from two or three in our own half was magical.

Have to wonder what he was playing at. Surely he wasn't blind to the situation. We normally storm off to a quick start at home, but even after 10 minutes I was fearing that the patterns of play already established meant a change needed to be made before they eventually scored. It's definitely interesting to see how poor teams are this season at transition defending. Every game, every week, you see some clear cut chances being created on the counter attack, usually from corners or free kicks deep in the defending team's final third. I guess it's a trade off as we've scored 50+ goals already after 22 games, but equally during our most successful period of recent years (under Rafa) we would never concede so many clear cut chances, especially straight from attacking situations (e.g. derby away this season). I don't even think the style and setup of this team represents the ideals of the manager. He values possession, dominating of games through midfield by all accounts, but his best available players currently are direct (Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard, Sterling). Can't help but think he's stuck between different mindsets, which results in mindf*ck decisions like fielding Gerrard and Henderson as a two, flanked by two small attacking players who are not strong defensively against a physical and quick Villa midfield/front 6. He loves a bold gamble (which I applaud) but equally if it's going horribly wrong you have to change it immediately (Suso got hooked after 25 one game last season didn't he?). Our best footballing performance this season was at Spurs where Allen, Hendo and Lucas passed, pressed and defended in unison. I think that was what we expected from a Brendan Rodgers Liverpool team when he first joined. I know we have suffered massively with injury/form problems in key positions - namely the fullbacks, Coutinho and Allen - but Rodgers' refusal/inability to change things up with substitutions is just baffling. And so is his aversion to giving Luis Alberto game time when the lad clearly has talent, and a different skillset from the direct players we have on the pitch. I can't help thinking we're going to have a tough time against the better teams at Anfield in the next few months, for the very reason that we don't defend well at all, and have a very offensive mentality. Teams know that we are good in attack, but also that they will get at least 3 good chances a game to score...
