What an idiot Rooney is. Capello should not take him at all.
-
Jocky has jinxed us by backing us to win in his BBC column.
-
Indeed. And nor did they give a toss when we were in deep s*** with the previous owners and close to going under. But now they're crying about Liverpool trying to make more money.
-
I'm getting concerned with starting Adam in this one. He was totally anonymous for Scotland against Spain. Yes they were up against top opposition but Fletcher had no problem in putting himself about - and he will start against us this weekend. And I don't really like Gerrard playing in a 2 man midfield. I personally would go for a 3 man central midfield, consisting of Lucas, Gerrard and Spearing. I think those 3 will handle Fletcher, Anderson and Cleverly - assuming Gerrard is 100% fit.

The lesser clubs NEED the top 6. The big boys don't need the rest. If they wanted, Liverpool, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City (along with maybe Villa and Everton) can break away from the Premiership and invite the top 12-14 clubs from the Championship to join us in a new league. If such a breakaway threat existed the other 14 PL clubs would fall into line, I guarantee it.
-
You know if Chelsea or ManU came out with this suggestion there wouldn't nearly be as much scathing criticism in the media - in fact ManU have mentioned this before but there was hardly a murmur about this in the press. We are getting slaughtered by the press and other rent-a-quote g*******s like Dave Whelan. f*** them - let's press ahead with our plans. The big clubs secretly support us any way since they will benefit too from this. The smaller clubs should know their role and shut the f*** up. If the top 6 or 7 clubs in the PL want to go ahead with this they can force the matter through, whether Whelan and co like it or not.

I've mentioned 'fairness' (in inverted commas) in previous posts regarding the domestic deal purely so we don't get a La Liga like situation developing. But in all honesty, I'm not concerned about other clubs in the league or about being fair to them. Even less so when it comes to international TV rights. It's not fair that we have finite resources yet we have to compete against clubs with bottomless pockets like Man City and Chelsea. How is that fair on us? We need to look after ourselves and taking advantage of our popularity by negotiating our own TV deals with foreign broadcasters will go some way towards providing us financial security.
-
No, there is a middle ground. In the interest if 'fairness' the domestic deal with Sky, ESPN, BBC etc. should remain a collective agreement. But why apply the same for international broadcasters? It doesn't make sense for Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal etc. to share with the rest of the league when it comes to broadcasting rights outside of the UK. In order to compete with the top clubs we need to increase revenue using all legitimate resources - our enormous global fanbase is one such resource.
-
I can only see Germany stopping Spain in the Euro's. They were well outclassed in the WC but the German team has gotten even better since. Ozil is just top class.
-
This is about international TV rights. I agree that the domestic TV deal should remain 'shared' between the 20 PL clubs (although in reality we still get more money from Sky than most clubs). But international TV rights should belong to Liverpool. We have hundreds of millions of fans worldwide, we could make a killing from foreign viewers. But we are hamstrung by a shared TV deal which sees us getting paid the same as Norwich and Stoke. Nobody tunes in to watch these teams except their supporters in the UK. But millions tune in to watch Liverpool, and we should be able to benefit from this.

'Ammers olympic stadium deal collases
Gambit replied to Epic Swindle 's topic in General Football Discussion
What to do with a huge stadium after the Olympics? No football fan wants to watch their team play in an athletics stadium, those days have long gone. And why should West Ham simply waltz into a fancy stadium paid for by the taxpayer when they have a perfectly good stadium of their own (which they never fill any way)? And why the hell should Sours be allowed to move to the East End, bulldoze the Olympic stadium and build their own? Personally I think no club should move into the stadium and it should remain a stadium used for athletics. Or has Lord Coe and the other organisers of the 2012 games forgotten about the "Olympic legacy" they were banging on about for years and years? -
A sensible manc once admitted to me that the Gerrard that started to emerge around 2003-4 was the best English midfielder of his type since Duncan Edwards. Some praise from supporters who have elevated the Busby era players to mythical heights.
-
Way too much Scholes love here. Gerrard was better than him, and Gerrard was better than Keane too. Those two just happened to play in better teams, that's all. Had Gerrard played for the mancs (god forbid) during his career instead the English media would declare him the greatest midfielder that ever lived.

Jordan Henderson - does Kenny intend to play him on the right all the time?
Gambit replied to Iver's topic in Liverpool FC
I'd be made up if Hendo ever becomes as good as Beckham. I truly detest Beckham the celebrity but he was a top player IMO. -
Kuyt at WBA? No chance. He has more self-respect than that. Dirk will finish his career in Holland when he leaves us.
-
Carra is absolutely right about the hiring of foreign coaches for the England team. England have had 2 very expensive foreign coaches in the last 10 years and neither has gotten the team remotely close to winning a tournament. None of the other top countries in Europe have ever appointed foreign coaches nor would they even consider it. England have acted like a nation that is a footballing novice by hiring foreign coaches.Even worse countries than England have more respect and national pride and only had native managers.
-
I hope really Gerrard retires from the England team after the Euros. I think it would be the perfect time for him to quit the national side to ensure he spends his last few years as a pro footballer giving Liverpool the best possible service. I don't think he will though.
-
You would wish Ridsdale on your worst enemy? That is cruel, to the point of being inhumane.

The mancs are due a beating, and where better for their first loss than Anfield. They should've lost to both Norwich and Basle and I can easily see us going one better than those 2. The key for me is the 2 week break. Suarez is going half-way across the world to play 2 games, hopefully he and all our lads come back injury free, and the manc internationals come back f***ed.
-
That's what I'm saying. But by stating that I'm apparently a manc.

Arsenal missed a trick by not going for Parker. He's exactly the sort of player they need. Wenger seems to have forgotten the role the likes of Parlour and Gilberto Silva played for his title winning teams and now wants short, technical players instead. He needs someone to do the donkey work in midfield but wants to emulate Barcelona but he doesn't have the players to remotely come close. His defence is a shambles too. The way Arsenal play, I can see them losing plenty of games they should either be wining or getting a draw in. They won't make the top 6 IMO.
-
Kelly is a superb young player but Johnson has more big game experience and just feel he will handle Young and Evra better. But Kelly should be fine, and Kuyt will also be helping him out.

Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani, Scholes, Neville. Mancs win this one.
