Xabi would've gone even if Rafa didn't try selling him the previous season. He had spent 5 years with Liverpool, he accomplished most things he wanted and then Real Madrid came calling who were undertaking a massively ambitious new project. He'd have been mad to turn them down.

He was immense when he came on, one of his best performances for us. I'm still not convinced he's right for us though. I'm not a fan of knocking balls into the box to a big man to get a flick on, and if we mould a team around him we'll forever be lumping balls forward which is rarely effective against the best centre-backs and not great to watch either.

Don't think it did. But AC should've buried it regardless, that was a sitter so not going complain about whether it crossed or not.

Yep, criticising Spearing is a bit silly. He didn't cost us anything, he doesn't really have a proper position and is obviously just a squad player who is filling in for Lucas. I'm less inclined to criticise him than, say a couple of players who cost us £16M and £20M and did f*** all.

The first hour was exactly how I saw this game turning out for us. Knew we'd lose. But the turnaround after the hour mark I didn't expect. We totally dominated them and suddenly the old boys at Chelsea don't look so formidable. The game was there for the taking and we came close, put in a great effort and were so unlucky not to have got the second goal. That last 30 minutes or so gives me a bit of hope. Add a few more decent players and we can be a proper team again.

Close decision whether the ball crossed but Andy should've given Cech no chance. Still, Carroll was immense when he came on, wish he'd been playing like that all season.
