I think if we examine the transfers objectively, I would say we've blown a lot of money on average players. Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam... all average. Carroll had shown potential to be a top striker while at Newcastle but that doesn't justify £35M we spent on him. The others have always been average Premiership players, nothing more. That won't go down well with some but being strictly objective, these were poor buys. I don't think we'd be any worse had we kept Aquilani, Meireles, as well as giving more game time to Maxi and Spearing. Nobody can honestly say Hendo is any better than Spearing. I prefer Speo in fact, he at least never hides and gives 100%. Suarez was a good signing though.
