Anyone who's visited the middle east in the middle of the summer would tell you it's hard to walk around outside for more than 10 minutes, let alone playing a football match for 90 minutes. Awarding Qatar the world cup is the height of stupidity and reeks of corruption and backhanders. It's a joke that nobody can bring FIFA into line; they only serve whoever pays them the most.
Yeah I don't get the Beckham comparison either. Beckham was renowned for his quality set pieces, crossing and pretty good distribution. He had a good engine and did a lot of running around. At the moment I'm not sure what Henderson does, but it certainly isn't reminiscent of Beckham.
Don't like Spain or their boring tippy-tappy football. They're a very cynical team and I hope Holland or Germany will beat them in Euro 2012 - the only 2 teams that can surely stop the Spanish, and they play more attractive football than Spain. As for England - they were rubbish as expected but surprisingly resolute. I'm actually certain that if the 'senior' players were playing for England - Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Rooney etc. - Spain would have won easily. But the younger players showed a lot of determination, if not quality, and hopefully this will be a sign for the next England manager to end the international careers of the so-called 'Golden Generation'. I for one would be glad to see Stevie stop playing for England after years of being messed around and coming back injured.
Yeah OT was having construction work done so away fans weren't allowed. That match still f***s me off today. That game should have been all about Fowler's brilliance. Instead the media devoted it to Cantona because he scored a penalty that should never have been given (Giggs dived to win that and Ellary couldn't wait to award it). Even thinking about it now makes me mad...
Fair enough, he's not disloyal. That would be somebody like Tevez, or Owen. To put it another way, ambition for great players like Suarez (and Torres and Alonso before) is a major driving force and if he can't fulfil that at Liverpool, he will eventually look to go to a club that can help him win the trophies he seeks. Hopefully we'll be challenging for the top honours over the next few seasons, as our own history as shown that once we re no longer competitive, some of our best players tend to leave.
If anyone thinks Luis will remain here if we are not challenging for trophies then they are sadly mistaken. He'll be off, like Torres. There is precious little loyalty in football any more.
I don't regret Torres leaving at all. We'd have been fools to reject £50M for a unhappy, out-of-form striker. And it still looks a fantastic deal for us. But we could've spent the money more wisely.
I haven't seen the Geordies play this season, have they been any good? Pardew is doing a decent job so far considering he's lost all his best players since last season (Enrique, Barton, Carroll, Nolan).
I think when these people are mentioned in terms of 'greatness', it refers to their status as great managers, not necessarily great men. If their greatness is measured by their success as football managers then both Ferguson and Clough are unquestionably great. Both w*****s no doubt, not at all dignified as the likes of Busby or Paisley but great managers nontheless.
I don't like the fellow but you'd have to be pretty biased to say he's not a great. ManU were going nowhere when he took over and now they are one of the top sides in Europe. His record of league wins really speaks for itself. He's still a c*** but he's a winner.
