  1. Why does everyone rate Di Maria? He's an average attacker who has convinced people he's something special through his body language. Johnson had him quite easily last night.
  2. Fair play with Blanc but Rijkaard has managed for twelve years now and that's no short period of time. He's managed national teams, club teams, worked under some of the best managers in the game (Guus Hiddink at Holland, Arrigo Sacchi at Milan during his playing days) and built a brilliant Barcelona side while he was there. After the technicality of Benítez, I think the artistry and calm of Rijkaard could work wonders on our team. The problem I have with him is the way he left Barcelona. It was a mass of confusion, lack of communication and lack of discipline that led to his eventual demise but in fairness, he's going strong with Galatasaray now. If we're doing top fives, this would be mine (no particular order): Mourinho, Prandelli, Sacchi, Rijkaard, McLeish. Bit of a contrast there but I'd happily accept all those guys as Liverpool manager.
  3. That was unbelievable. We don't help ourselves and I can acknowledge that but the amount of times we've been done over by incompetent officials is incredible. That was never a sending off for Ryan Babel and although the penalties were both penalties, I have some real issues with them. An away goal is good though, and we can absolutely destroy these at Anfield next week. We'll show them what a real atmosphere is, no firecrackers or anything. Come on you Red men!
  4. I can't really see Rafa going to Real Madrid. He's had a six year project year here and would want similar time to build at his next club. It could be argued that with more transfer funds he could achieve something over there in half the time he has spent at Liverpool but he wants control as much as anything else. He wants control over the team, transfers, youth and everything else. At Real Madrid he is not going to get that by any means, not even over the team. They don't even have managers - that's just a title for the guy who picks the team. They don't train the players, sign them, control their off-field activity... It's a f***ing circus. Everyone seems to be under the belief that if he left Liverpool today, he would be back in Madrid tomorrow but I doubt it. You know how those t***s are with their 'beautiful football'. Does Rafa have that reputation? No. They certainly wouldn't sack Valdano for him. No, Rafa won't be going to Madrid. They're simply not meant for eachother and he would be far better suited at an Italian club.
  5. I always wanted Aquilani. Ever since the first Alonso rumours surfaced, he was the one Insaid would replace him and I stand by that as he's extraordinarily gifted. However, his fitness is a major concern and I'm starting to get frustrated by it. Rather than sell him(undoubtedly at a loss) and lose a great player, I think we should sign another central midfielder who can cover him. I said last year our lack of options there cost us and once again I think they've held us back. Mathieu Flamini, Scott Parker, Javi Martinez, Ryan freaking Giggs... Just someone with experience or flair would help a lot.
  6. • Get a piece in one of the nationals stating the Union's aims. Outline the issues the club has, what SOS has done so far, why joining is important and citing the long-term aims. I know it sounds exaggerated but there are 'f***loads' of fans that haven't a clue about our situation. Doing this would be a decent start? • Get the logo in places. The DLC billboards honestly would have been more effective with just the logo and a quick phrase. Get them in London and perhaps some European countries if feasible? I'm not sure, don't jump me on that last bit. • Organize meetings with RBS and the Premier League. Sit down with them and tell them what we want. Sure they'll get an idea through thousands of emails but it isn't like they're going to say 'oh, they're unhappy, let's throw those damn Yanks'. They know we're unhappy, telling them that just doesn't help us get it sorted surely?
  7. I fully support the union but I am not sending any emails. If we want to get somewhere with this campaign against Hicks and Gillett, we need to be making friends with the people that can do something to help the club rather than deciding to piss them off. I know the green and gold down Salford is tedious as hell but we need to follow their example by at least looking professional rather than coming across as vigilantes. I know it's misleading but that's what we're becoming known as. As I said, I fully support the union and am a member myself. However, I just don't see this working for us. I'm more than willing to come up with ideas about what we could do if anyone thinks I'm being petulant by the way... We're all in this together.
  8. I don't know if it was just me (it may well have been) but United's dynamic trio of Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick rarely seemed to venture past the half-way line against Bayern last night. Then Ferguson had his massively offensive winger in Park instead of the very defensive Valencia, who was sat in front of of the marauding t*** supreme at right-back. Chelsea have had too many managers to say whether they're offensive or defensive but United? They're just a copy of European Liverpool between '04 and '07. Cool story.
  9. Fair enough. They weren't really that weird. In England he had all sorts of people fawning over him left, right and centre but people in Italy (especially the journalists) are far more willing to judge him on his managerial merits first and foremost, rather than endlessly giving him love for being Mistar Went a Qwote. The fact he isn't massively popular is enough to make him a bit uneasy.
  10. The same Ancelotti that lost away at the same Villa side as recently as October? And this is the same Martin O'Neill who got shown up in similar vein when going away to Man United and Liverpool and coming away with three points on both occasions? I definitely agree with your post in general but the last sentence doesn't hold much weight.
  11. They sent some limp email to the members, asking what they had to lose. It was a pathetic attempt at not looking like the waste of space they always were.
  12. A fan buy-out is totally unrealistic. It's a romantic thought and the club will always truly belong to the supporters but if we want to compete at the top level (on and off the pitch) then I don't see how SOS, ShareLiverpool or any other such group could provide. This is of course comes after we've found the money to buy the club in the first place, which, as was proved last time, is very difficult to do. The next thing we could do in terms of getting them out is finding a new invester ourselves. I have tried this route myself in recent months and I thought I may have been onto something but it wasn't happening. SOS doing it would obviously hold more weight but selling the club is Christian Purslow's job and if we did find a guy willing to buy C&A right out, it could easily be rejected. And if they turned out to be dodgy, what do we do? Blame David Moores? No. The club would be a laughing stock for selling itself down the river again. No. Both are unrealistic and the best thing we can do (besides boycott matches) is create as much bad publicity for them as possible while getting SOS a reputation as a professional group that can be trusted with a place on the board, as the website states is an aim. So, bad publicity. Ex-players speaking out is a good way of getting media attention. Look at all the attention David Beckham gave the G&G campaign at Salford, just by wearing a scarf. We've criticized our legends for not coming out but have we asked them directly to speak? Not that I know of. It's not as if Beckham kept that scarf down his shorts ready for full-time, was it? John Barnes, John Aldridge, Ian Rush, Alan Hansen, Robbie Fowler and Didi Hamann all speaking out at the same time would cause massive hype and pressure on Hicks and Gillett. So come on, I'm sure they'd all be happy to help. In terms of publicity for SOS, they need to stop the militant stuff. It might be effective in shorts bursts but in the long-term? Nah. We need to start by making friends in the nationals (Barrett, Reade, Maddock, Samuel), getting the logo in more places (London!) and getting bit of financial backing. I have massive respect for everyoe who has dedicated their time to the union but now we have more info on the club's situation, I definitely think we should take a new approach. In terms of protests for everyone at the games, well, I don't know. Banners have been on the Kop for years and aren't the inventive, fresh way of getting attention the Mancs dis through their G&G thing. Corinthians scarves? Iconic, certainly. Having them there to raise awareness could be a cute move. Whistles? Twnety thousand blowing them would drive commentators mad and would definitely get an odd mention. 'Blowing time on Hicks and Gillett.' That's all I can think of for now. Tell me what you think.
  13. Insua is a kid, why are so many people taking sly digs at him? With one hundred "new Messis" popping up every other day it is easy to forget about a player's youth when they underperform Saying that though, the people that are happily slating him now for lacking confidence are probably the same people who ripped into Rafa for not playing the lad when he was two years younger. I know he's been shaky at the back at tikes this season but it's his first full season in football and he's been playing in a side totally bereft of confidence and mental strength. I have seen more than enough from him to suggest he'll be a more than adequate left-back for the club.
  14. We all know that Hicks wants to stay at Liverpool and keep as much control as possible. A full buy-out would obviously see him lose all of his shares so Purslow will favor the Rhone bid as it allows Hicks to stay on at the club, even if it doesn't suit what Uncle Tom wants exactly. Hicks is between a rock and a hard place so it's not as if he's going to get hundreds of bids offering £100m for 25% or under as he first wanted, is it? It's the one thing that's annoying me more than anything; who the hell actually put Purslow here?
  15. He lacks pace but that doesn't matter. As someone has already mentioned, it's the pace of which he moves the ball that really makes him an effective attacker and Gerrard loved pushing up next to him yesterday afternoon. He isn't the sort of player I want in our starting line-up every week but he made a visible difference to the pass and move philosophy against Portsmouth and Sunderland. Yes, it's 'only' Portsmouth and Sunderland but we somehow drop enough points against sides like that for him to be a valuable asset. And although I usually like wingers playing on the 'wrong' flank, I definitely don't want Maxi on the left.
  16. Still can't see it? Haha.
  17. Again, this might fit in with the hearsay that he was heading a 'consortium'. I guess we'll have to see in due course. If SOS or ShareLiverpool aren't going to do anything on a fan takeover, I think we're going to be left playing the waiting game until the season finishes.
  18. If he's interested in the minority offer, maybe he could be Hicks' man after all? This has been the issue for me all along but hopefully it won't turn out that way.
  19. Although he isn't pretty about it, Carragher is excellent with both feet. Being able to use your opposite foot capably is an excellent trait to have as a defender as it gives you far greater balance.
  20. He isn't the best left-back but he's alright there and would at least be willing to play there from time to time. If we actually attack teams like we did yesterday, there'd be little need for him to defend and he could play much further up without getting exposed, a la Glen Johnson.
  21. Mascherano - Typical Javier performance, was a beast from the first minute. Some of the passes he played were sensational and he did his primary task of breaking up Sunderland attacks very well. Torres - Scored two sublime goals and is, put simply, the man. Johnson - One goal, a lovely assist and was a constant outlet down the right. It was nice to have someone provide a bit of direct running again. Insua and Gerrard narrowly miss out. No direct contributions from them though, so Johnson got the final place.
  22. Instead of using up any budget we might have on a 'pure' left-back, I think we should just go for Juan Vargas and kill two birds with one stone; we'd be getting someone who could capably fill in for Insua now and then but he is a primarily a winger and a damn good one at that, as he showed in our Champions League games against Fiorentina. Would probably only cost about £15m as well, which is a bargain given the lack of left-footed full-backs out there. Alternatively, we could try shape Kelly into a left-back and see how that works. Not permanent or anything, he's too good a centre-half for that... But you look at Carragher and the good it did him to play on the left hand side and wonder if Kelly could be the same.
  23. Has anybody heard anything about Anil Ambani negotiating a deal? I have a source who says he's interested in buying the club right out (he isn't a football man, so much a finance one) but it's been in no papers at all and nobody has said anything about him on any of the Liverpool forums I visit. Mukesh yes, Anil no. Just wondering with him and Roy being mates and all, that maybe he's right. I know this is my first post and all, sorry for getting so to the point.
