Nope, far from it I agree with the above - there is nothing to suggest that Jamie would make a decent premiership manager
-
We once built a dynasty on that premise
-
The key issue is would the owners consider Benitez an option I think they may just see him as a risk and in the event of the recent turnover in managers I think its unlikely, in which case this is all pretty much academic
-
Not a personal recommendation - but as you mentioned it on the subject of unemployed managers
-
The context being that along the way we eliminated both Chelsea and Man City on away performances credit where credit is due an that
-
Where does Commoli fit in ? I dont think Benitez would feel comfortable with the presence of a DoF above him
-
I only excuse Ayre on the basis that the original defence couldnt have been issued without his original support - my guess is the order came from a higher authority
-
with the Suarez thing, the club initially put out a very strong statement in support of the player and then completely capitulated, I dont' know why but something happened and the about turn must have come from a very senior level whether this was Ayre, or the owners I dont know but it certainly put the skids under Dalglish and the rest of the team My feeling is that it wasn't Ayre but Werner, in which case Ayre was also left high and dry Tends to be very disorientating when that sort of thing happens - maybe there is a lack of trust/cohesion now. The club is suffering for it.

Depends then how you define a legend. I look at the overall contribution a player has made and the influence his presence has had on players around him. I look at the honours he has won and the commitment he gives to the game and the club. I look at the professionalism he brings and the dedication he shows, and yes, the level of ability as well. The whole argument is subjective but in Carraghers case there is more than an argument for him to be considered alongside players like Tommy Smith and Emlyn Hughes There are some fantastically gifted players at some clubs today that you really wouldn't consider as legends for a variety of reasons - but this is a thread about Kenny so I'll leave it at that
-
I think thats a given now but appointing a successor is going to be a defining moment. We cant keep on switching managers, there is a clear need to develop a long term view of the direction the club is going to go. Everything is a bit mental at the moment

Jamie Carragher is a legend at this club for me, always will be. And to describe him as a limited player is gobsmackingly ignorant of the role he has played in the defensive strategies of Houllier and Benitez, strategies which were instrumental in the treble winning year and arguably one of the most historic nights in this clubs history at Instanbul but then he does speak his mind and that earns you enemies in this era of the shallow and superficial
-
We did hit 19th under Hodgson at one point though marginally above a relegation place - that was a low
-
I know I shouldn't bite but what the heck, here how i see it The real truth is that there is a vocal group of embarrassingly shallow individuals on this forum who have a particular view about what they think everybody else's view should be. Any deviation from the party line is not met with any attempt at constructive criticism, debate, or even witty banter but with pathological puerile abuse. Now wouldn't the world be a really boring place if we all thought like you
-
nah, I just thought true Liverpool Fans were a bit classier than that. We were once I remember, sometime ago perhaps
-
I think that you actually believe I'm Christian Purslow
-
Yeah.....quality, insightful, constructive etc etc
-
Well, I'm partially right. He wasnt given a blank cheque but pretty much everything else on the playing side Telegraph on Benitez's new contract
-
I think you will find that Benitez was able to negotiate a new 5yr contract with Tom Hicks at the start of his final year not only with an increase in salary but also with a considerable switch in control throughout the playing side of the club in terms of player selection, youth development and personnel Your obsession with purslow is something you need to seek professional help with

Commoli, Ayre and the owners aren't responsible for the brittleness of the team's performance which is at Dalglish and Clarke's door, but Dalglish does not have the freedom Benitez was given in the final year or so of his tenure. Dalglish will have been given options but they will have been options within overall guidelines determined by Commoli I'm not absolving the manager from the problems this year but he alone is not responsible for the wholesale failure of the players recruited last summer, all of which was supposed to be the keystone behind our rebuilding process. The decision to strengthen with domestic based players would almost certainly been influenced by Commoli so the Director of Football must also bear responsibility for the policy. The biggest under-acheivers at the club are British players bought at a premium who may have had outstanding opta stats, but have shown piss little in terms of winning mentality following their move to a club with higher expectations. Yes Kenny's in the firing line but Commoli shouldn't escape the flack either
-
He is there to define transfer strategy, oversee the scouting network and provide support and advice to the manager in the selection of targets. It should be a team approach but at Spurs there was always the suspicion that he interfered a lot more than he should - Jol is not a fan its safe to say
-
Thanks for that......really quite illuminating considering you do not have the faintest clue about who you are talking about, or what you are talking about for that matter
-
Not very practical Obviously would make you feel a lot better but wouldn't help our problems on field and might also only serve to create difficulties off field with some of our commercial partners. Our problem is that our squad appears to have a mentality as brittle as balsa and unable to handle the pressures of playing for a club which has high level of expectation. Linked to this is the fact that some players seem to think that winning the Carling Cup is enough for the season. I know its been stated enough times already but we really appear to have been guilty of poor selection in our transfer targets, not simply in terms of whether they are of sufficient ability, but whether they have a winning mentality. I personally think Commolii has the most to answer for and as much as I hate to admit it, as I was anti Rafa, instilling a winning mentality and a solidness were qualities he did give to the club. Replacing Dalglish is still too unpalatable but he is clearly beginning to struggle and needs more help, but not from Commolli it would seem

Incredible footballer, commitment, aggression, intelligence and a world class ability to apply either power or placement to his finishes. A natural leader by example, what he says is irrelevant. .........Yet some people cant resist a dig still
-
Tell you what, this is a forum where we are supposed to have a reasonable level of debate, why don't you try it out instead of resorting to juvenile abuse Do you bully your wife and kids the same

I think suggesting that Dalglish should be sacked at this stage would be idiocy, I think sacking Kenny to bring in Benitez would be absolute lunacy. Last summers signings have been awful but I follow the logic not just in terms of the need to build an English/British spine but in the positions we filled. The logic back fired so we need to try again having learnt the lesson, but sacking the manager after barely a season having sacked the previous manager within a few months is f***ing mental as is the devotion to Benitez
