  1. Thanks for that, in light of the fact that the lady now denies the story I trust you feel a right t** for that insightful response Love Chaotic
  2. But if the strategy is to cling on why handover his power to a five man board and risk being out voted? Seems a bit extreme if its simply to con RBS.
  3. I'm not trying to be mean but the idea that Dirk Kuyt reminds some people of Kenny Dalglish is completely farcical. Kuyt has his moments, yes he works extremely hard, he's a classic example of a player who defends from the front, and he's consistent. But anyone who was fortunate to see Dalglish play will tell you that Dalglish was telepathic, clinical and had a level of close control which was reminiscent of Best. I'm not a big fan of Kuyt as he reminds me too much of whats flawed in the managers footballing philosophy, but setting aside my own prejudice I couldnt think of another player so far removed from one of the greatest players this club has ever seen. actually scrub that.... I've just remembered salif
  4. I think we should focus on what Broughton's role is a little more As far as I can tell he was brought in by the owners with the agreement of the bank to facilitate the sale of the club. I'm presuming that nowhere in this agreement does it state that he has to be a fan or pledge loyalty to the club. To me its simple, he uses his professional expertise and experience to find a buyer, oversee the transitional arrangements and bugger off. That is what he's paid for, thats what he will be judged on, that is his role and that is what I'm pretty damned sure he will try his best to achieve. Shall we cut him a little slack in the meantime its been what six or seven weeks so far since the original announcement. We are already sniping at a guy who might actually be able to achieve what we all want without resorting to mass annihilation. Not only that but its all over an alleged bit of small talk quoted second hand from a sky reporter Can we put away the pitchforks, burning torches and ducking stool for at least a couple more months
  5. I think it is, I understand the cynicism, anything he says needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if you luck at his position and the events so far you must understand that selling the club is not only his best option its his only option. What we see and hear from Hicks about the process lasting 18 months and valuations of £800m is basically posturing. RBS may aquiesce to this for a short while but it is they who have dragged him to this point and I cant see them stretching this far beyond the next 6 months. Hicks is a huge potential liability to them in this current climate and one which I believe they will apply increasing pressure to get resolved despite the fact that so far we have met our financial obligations to them He is going, he cant build the stadium nor can he support the club, no one is keen on forming a minority partnership with him and his sports franchise elsewhere is deeply mired. He says himself he wants to concentrate on real estate and thats what makes logical business sense. Ergo, his only interest here is how much he can profit from the sale
  6. I believe targeting the RBS would be more agreeable Your boycott idea may or may not be effective, personally i have doubts, but I really do not see how it would affect the americans either way. They are leaving the club, their only concern will be to get as much out of the closure as possible. A loss of revenue from a specific area in their commercial operations would be a tab they would leave for the new owners to pick up, the americans are focused on the sale itself not the balance sheet next year or the year beyond. We know they dont care what happens to the club after they've gone, I suspect from a financial point of view they are about as bullet proof from risk as they can be. Crippling the commercial operation will just make us more unattractive to someone thinking of buying us. There are other concerns i have about unintended consequences of a boycott but they are wildly speculative and would probably ruin the debate as it would attract the usual spin and my main point would be lost - I have real problems with a boycott but very reluctantly would not break an official one if the majority of fans wanted it However I do think there should be more consideration about the possible downside of such action before all merrily jumping over the cliff edge. Remember the owners are going and Hicks is a bulls*** merchant of the highest order
  7. God sake, when you are in a hole stop digging So now, ooc'ers aren't valued because they dont understand Hillsborough, talk about being devisive. I shudder when I see people bringing in these delicate issues in support of dodgy arguments and what about those glory seeking foreign players in the team, does the scouse first mentality apply here If its about history, Liverpool has always welcomed and given sanctuary to people from outside its borders its in the blood, or at least so I felt, when did we become a microcosm of little england
  8. Its tacky alright when you think about it, on the other hand its possible that some idiot thought it would be a good idea not intending offence supporting the idea of justice as a gerrard shirt supports the player Look, I'm not trying to be awkward, argumentative or naive, especially over this particular issue but sometimes we do tend to read more into these things than is really necessary sign of the times i suppose
  9. Ah if only life was that simple Think this one through a bit more before you accuse others of spouting nonsense
  10. What happened happened, nothing will bring back those lads and lasses back, The important lesson to learn is we make sure that something like this never happens again which, in my humble opinion, includes showing other supporters greater respect Hatred alcohol and abuse started this
  11. Gedo knows Benitez then...right?
  12. Its an excuse to hide the real reason why he's leaving the club. He's getting out because he cant afford to run us The privacy angle is just a sympathy thing
  13. The continual low level sniping at Gerrard only goes to show how very short football supporters memories are He's had a poor poor season just like his manager eh? who also happens to have been a bit vague about his future until very recently Compare and contrast
  14. Kuyts perfectly happy here I thought
  15. quote name='Benzo-13' date='22 May 2010 - 03:55 PM' timestamp='1274540102' post='2631577'] Not really what I was getting at. It might teach some who think we've a divine right to things to be more patient considering our current incumbant and our current circumstances. I've been a fan of Liverpool for forty years and to tell you the absolute truth I've yet to meet another Liverpool fan who believes we have a divine right to win things. On the other hand I have met a whole load of fans who given our resources expect us to compete as a top tier club, hold the ambitions of a top tier club and not make continual excuses for abject mediocrity But i tell you what really irritates me as a fan and a purveyor of this web thing is the patronising, smug, know it all types, who think only they see the reality whilst the rest of the fanbase are blind, ignorant or incapable.
  16. To be honest, if the sale is close I'd be surprised if those pair would be allowed to go. I'd have thought that the failure to secure champions league status and selling two world class players would not be the right sort of message Hicks and Gillett would want to send out to interested parties and for the moment at least both players are technically on secure contracts I can see it being a very frustrating summer with little actual movement until the sale issue is finally resolved
  17. Are bland facetious sayings your stock in trade?
  18. Wholesale changes are completely unnecessary, smack of desperation and the psychology of which would have unintended consequences Its actually not a bad squad, what it lacks is confidence consistency and maybe a different direction Replace anyone who needs to go and strengthen the left back and striker options but beyond that we are more than capable of being a top four side
  19. Apologies for my earlier remark I thought that was your stance
  20. Delusional I want the manager to leave the club and it has nothing to do with the current owners who are a separate issue. Truth is I'd be gutted if we got new ownership and Benitez remained. His mentalility and his footballing philosophy will not move this club on and that will not change with new owners or new money
  21. So our chief executive had nothing to do with the negotiations around the standard charter deal Goebbels would have appreciated some of the crap spouted in this forum
  22. With all due respect I really don't think the billboard campaign would have any appreciable effect whatsoever on senior executives of the bank. I mean its not like these guys would have no idea about the type of businessmen they are dealing with already. What possible fresh insight is it going to have on them.
  23. of course you might have completely overlooked a very good contract deal with standard charter there is the knife in for purslow now because he didnt play ball with sos
  24. and after losing all sense of pride dignity and heritage by capitulating to chelsea the mancs go and get title 19 the following season We play to win every game and if they get no 19 we win it next year and rain on their parade difference being we would still have our cajones
  25. I don't know about this, I know life will be pretty unbearable if United where to win a 19th title as a result of us beating Chelsea, but there would always be the possibility of us taking it back off them. But if we were to deliberately lose against Chelsea it would be rammed down our throats over and over again and not necessarily by just United fans - and there could be no redemption Tell you what, does anyone honestly believe Shankly or Paisley would support this. I couldn't see it myself We play to win and live with the consequences but live with our name intact
