The best way to figure Utd out, will be to look at the first 2 goal kicks, for and against.
When its theirs, how long are they willing to hold the ball. They'll want to keep the ball away from the center of the pitch and create spaces in the channels.
When its ours, how far up the pitch are the front 3 coming because that dictates where the midfield must come to and where the defence comes to. Below shows Newcastle coming out and willing to leave 3 up the pitch and still have 2 other players hugging each sideline. United keep a back 5 around the half way line and unwilling to go man-to-man (3 on 3) in order to allow the WBs to get up the pitch to the Newcastle wide players.
The grass shading is 6 yards. Between Martinez and Hjolund, there is 5.5 markings (~33 yards). I think at Anfield, Hjolund needs to be where Zirkzee is and the midfield needs to be where the ref is. They need to pick the part of the pitch where they will engage us, and I dont think they can afford to come as high as that, unless all the defenders are willing to aggressively step up, if the ball is played into feet (and yet having the confidence of pace if the ball is played behind them)
