  1. If the tackle was deemed "careless", "reckless" or made with "excessive force", the referee is entitled to card him as he sees fit. It was very much a reckless challenge. Contact was made with Suarez so I don't know what game you were watching. But contact doesn't need to be made anyway. A careless or reckless challenge is still just that

Ah yes, the famous howler by Han Solo in Star Wars, using parsec as a unit of time when it's actually a unit of distance.
  3. Jamie Carragher to give away at least 2 penalties with rash challenges. Jamie Carragher to launch a minimum of 15 aimless hoofs inthe general direction of Andy Carroll in any game they both play
  4. Really? I took early retirement four years ago and it's the best thing I've ever done. I spend half my life on holiday and 99% of my time in the UK just chilling out, down the pub, watching sport etc and 1% of my time reading twaddle on here. Trust me, there's no downside to early retirement

  6. I think that makes you landslide winner in our "Pointless Facts You Didn't Know About Liverpool FC" competition. You win a bag of Barker & Dobson Spearmint Chews
  7. Holden's very run-of-the-mill and although you compare his play with that of Lucas there's no realistic comparison. Lucas is vastly superior. If we're going to sign a Poulsen replacement let's hope we're shopping at Harrods, not Primark for the likes of Holden.
  8. The downtown boundary is Crown Street L7. Hope Street is still downtown
  9. As a 56-year old Scouser your terminology is comletely alien to me. Going to the city centre was - and is - going downtown. The other areas were the North End and the South End. WTF is South Towwn and North Town in the name of Jesus?
  10. Saying that Mata is more talented than Downing is surely a clear winner in the ever-exciting "Understatement of the 21st Century" competition?
  11. Why not mention him and why just dwell on the successful signings? Isn't signing s*** like Carter - and Speedie - also a reflection of his player-spotting abilities. The other players you mention were all highly-rated and successful at their clubs when signed by Dalglish. Not one of them was unknown or seen as a huge gamble. Hardly "spotted" by him while others were oblivious to their qualities. Is it OK with you if I choose to wait and see what Dalglish's "player-spotting" abilities actually produce next season before I deify him? Thanks like
  12. You're right. Who can forget that he spotted Jimmy Carter and swooped early to capture him. The man's a legend
  13. I don't agree at all. Rafa with the current structure of the club and the proper financial backing the new owners will provide would be a much better bet. I doubt Rafa would have brought in Carroll today to replace the injured Meireles against a team that's as strong in midfield as Spurs. It was tactically naive and poor utilisation of the squad. Everyone I watched the game with today felt the same before a ball was kicked. I wish he'd proved me wrong but he played right into Spurs' hands today
  14. From your use of the word "schadenfreude" it's 100% clear that you don't have the first clue what it means
  15. Me too. It's great to see self-righteous know-alls making berks of themselves and then being outed.
  16. Reading that hilarious thread is a fine reminder that we should never underestimate the sheer stupidity of many knee-jerk merchants that still pollute this forum
  17. But they haven't won the league!
  18. One of my Indian mates - a big Liverpool fan - always refers to people from Pakistan as Pakis and makes the valid point that why is that term considered offensive by, usually, patronising white liberals, while calling someone from Britain a Brit is not considered offensive? Surely someone from that country would be proud, not offended, by being associated with a diminutive taken from his country's name. Seems a reasonable point of view to me
  19. Reminds me of an experience in a diner there many years ago. On ordering a coffee the waitress asked if I would like cream. I hesitated for a nanosecond, transfixed by her cleavage, but she took this slight delay as an example of a poor deprived Englishman being unaware of the dazzling array of dairy products available in the Land of the Free and helpfully informed me that it was "like a thicker kind of milk". You really couldn't make it up!
  20. Speak for yourself mate. I've always been a fan of cultured players like Maxi who believe in ball-retention. Now that we have the likes of him plus Meireles and Lucas in the middle they're all benefitting from having equally intelligent like-minded players around them who treat the ball like a precious item rather than a hot potato to be hoofed upfield. Maxi hasn't been a top international for Argentina for nothing. Ditto Lucas wasn't Brazilian footballer of the year because everyone over there had taken leave of their senses. The problem is that we, like all clubs, have too many knee-jerk merchants in our support who couldn't recognise quality if it took a dump on their head
  21. Stop being so achingly PC and right on. Having been in exile down here for several decades and having a number of Spurs fans as great mates I can assure you that they enthusiastically embrace the term and, indeed, call themselves the Yid Army. I also have black mates who rightly embrace the "n" word and laugh about patronising white liberals who feel the need to get their knickers in a twist on someone else's behalf.
  22. Suarez Lucas Maxi Special mentions for Kuyt and Johnson too
  23. Hardly. He had a superb World Cup (3 goals for third-placed Uruguay) and scored 49 goals last season for his club, so he's obviously top drawer. Just admit that your knee jerked a tad too quickly.
  24. Young really underwhelmes me. Don't rate him. Very in-and-out and lightweight
  25. Del was always a cockney diminutive of Derek and when I was growing up in Liverpool in the sixties and seventies Degs was always the Scouse diminutive. Are we now victims of Cockney hegemony? Haven't lived in Liverpool since 73 so anything's possible The Racing Post yesterday said we were overachieving of late and confidently predicted Fulham would win. None of the f*****s ever gives us due praise when we batter teams. It's aways the other team playing badly. One of my non-LFC mates said that the Sun said their goalie was badly at fault for 4 of our goals. The basic premise of course is that the score flattered us. Much more convenient than praising us
