In terms of sheer talent a list of the best defenders we've "ever" had, ie in my time watching us, would have to include Tommy Smith. He had it all. He was absolutely top class at either right back or centre-back. He was also the best tackler I've seen for Liverpool, was very good in the air for someone who wasn't the tallest, had a terrific shot on him and would routinely dribble out of trouble, in an era when most defenders were hoof merchants. He also took a great penalty kick. He had a great touch and oozed skill. Truly one of the most underrated players I've seen playing for Liverpool. That said, my favourite three players in the last fifty years are: Hughes Hansen Dalglish The best three would be extremely difficult to list, as it's very hard to compare players across the decades

Yes, he last refereed one of their games when they lost 6-1 to City and he sent Evans off. A year's ban from reffing Man U games and he comes back showing he's learnt his lesson. Chris Foy was demoted to reffing Accrington Stanley after he was in the charge of the Man U 3-2 loss to Spurs this season, so it'll be interesting to see if he's also learnt his lesson next time he refs Man U

I agree with everything you say but the point about Fox News favouring the Republicans is irrelevant. In America TV news is not required to be impartial as in Britain (let's gloss over the BBC's fanatical support for Labour for a moment). The other main news channels in the US openly support the Democrats, so Fox is at least offering another viewpoint

Personally I can't wait to see the back of the £90K a week lumbering oaf. He's been a liability for at least three years. I don't understand that viewpoint at all. He was always a good player it's just that he's finally getting the recognition he always deserved. I also don't see how he's supposed to have blossomed in the last 18 months as some have said. He was a top player long before that. In the 4-1 win at Man U he was comfortably the best player on the pitch but it wasn't fashionable to praise him then. Ditto when he replaced the ineffective Gerrard at Everton away and was the outstanding player in his 20-odd minutes on the pitch with his goal-bound shot being handled leading to the winning penalty. The only difference lately has been that we've signed similar classy players who are equally comfortable with receiving the ball under pressure and like to play a short-passing game and don't treat the ball as a hot potato. I liked the look of him from day one and always defended him against the weird views of others. Who can forget a regular poster on here proclaiming Poulsen as a better player after his debut? Laughable really
