yeah im aussie so i watch alot of aussie games and have seen alot on neil. Hes a fantastic asset to any team in terms of ability on the pitch. Re Voronin and Ngog having a chance to proove themselves ----are they gonna step up as babel is? and slag off the manager because he is playing poorly? Unfortunatly it seems that benitez does not have the way with youngsters that Wenger does (not that voronin is a youngster). I dont know it seems to me the chances of them stepping up are very slim voronins substitute performances have been atrocious thus far this season (it is very early) and doesnt really show any sense of danger when he is on the ball. He doesnt look like scoring. Ngog has alot more promise in my opinion than voronin but i doubt rafa will play ngog over voronin when given the chance due to age etc and yet another youngster can go stale. (To be fair every young player benitez has bought who have played in the first team i have had high hopes for but really apart from insua there hasnt been that much to show from it) BTW when i said suspect (Kyrgiakos) before i was refering to his diciplinary record and temper not his ability (hence he is able to prove he is good in both areas). And im pretty sure the majority of footballers are money hungry -- why do we need to offer new contract when players have 3 years left... its because other clubs will offer them higher wages and could take them from us... Not saying this is a good thing but its fairly realistic (with a few notable exceptions of course). I think the key point i felt here was with budget constraints players like the aformentioned owen etc seemed to be the best ooption for us and i know players have screwed with liverpool before i mean if they came back and owen scored 25 goals ina season you would all be singing his praises KOP champion again. i dunno just seems if we are willing to give Kyrgiakos a shot surely Owen and Neil would deserve one aswell. i get where your comming from Carra but surely if you had the choice between a Tried and tested good center back who knows english football against a untried suspect greek centerback who applies his trade in possibly the 7-10th best league in the world? i dunno im not judging him saying hes terrible but i see him as much of a risk as an free signing or even more so than one who is tried and tested. He made some pretty clinical errors last match which really pointed out to me that he was a bit out of his depth but obviously its gonna take time for him to adjust. Also its not like Owen is getting regular starts at Man U either so it makes me wonder how passionatly liverpool were willing tobe to bring him back once again i would rather take 1/2 of michael owen as an impact player over voronin

It seems to me there are a fair few free transfer being snapped up this transfer window or some who are still available who could add something to our team? Is it jsut that our budgets are that bad we cant deal with teh wages? Schevchenko Jan Venegoor Lucas Neil Michael Owen just to name a few If we have no money surely these are the options rather than spending 1.5 million on a greek with a questionable diciplin record...lucas neil would have been a good pickup for Center Back in my opinion - has premier league experience and was west hams captain. anyone else seeing these opportunities head out the door? I mean some are not good players and therfore shouldnt be looked at but surely there are some specially if we are tight on capital.

bingo..until the favoritism is sorted out through the officials and the FA your just employing another system for the FA to enforce that favoritism over and over. I think the key to any changes in rules on divings etc need to come with an independant un corrupted body running the video system otherwise same old decisions will come out.

when a players best contribution is slamming a goal into the back of his own net....you know he doesnt fit...send him to italy he would love it there a bit of extra time on the ball!! I so badly want to like him and think of him as a good palyer but the sign of a good player is consistancy and his poor performances far outweigh his good ones. Im gonna keep giving him shots till he walks out the door but in the meantime i expect very little from him...and seem to be receiving even less... Great pre season but seems thats where it ends..... in the pre season. I assume thats because we were playing teams from Thailand not premier league sides. Lets hope Aquilani gets fit id like to see him play a similar role. BTW watched a few of the old games when lucas was playing out for 4 games about 70% of his passes were backwards....thats something Alonso did not bring to the table whether its confidence or jsut a lack of skill to pinpoint passes it leaves us in a dicey situation.

I think carragher does alot more for that back four than he takes away....may be a bit old but his ability to marshall them together i cant help but think they would be crashing into each other and running in circles without his direction

reira is awsome.....he's spanish Kewell from leeds without the injuries (being aussie i have to love kewell but you have to admit for leeds he was awesome) to be fair i dont know why benitez hasnt been starting him and i think this post has pretty much answered my question because his ability is unmatched in our squad on that left wing. Im not sure if anyone else is noticing this but we seem very shaky at the back but also ineffective up the front. When other teams get corners etc they look dangerous and pressuring often for us the delivery is poor or there is noone there for a good delivery. Any suggestions on ways to fix either of these problems just interested in what people think ?

I dont wanna end up like chelsea or man city.......buying success doesnt feel right at a club which earned it for so long. Maybe an owner who will build our stadium and invest a reasoanble transfer budget per period would be nice. Sick of the extremes of owners who are stupidly rich and those who would sell thier children to service thier debt (would rather they sell their sons before they sell liverpools sons torres and gerrard).
