A major loss in departure of Suarez (in addition to his blinding talent) is his work rate and will to win which seemed to lift the team so many times last season. Replacing that, or ensuring we keep the same drive within the team, is a key test for the season ahead. If Balotelli is not fully committed and struts about half-caring at times, as he's appeared to in the past, even at £6m I wouldn't want him. If he's fully committed all the time and has the right attitude, then yeh this could be great...

Echo reporting that the Express are reporting that we're in for Kalou. Dismal if true. Never understood how he lasted so long at Chelsea, not to mind got any serious game time. That said, it's the Express, so it's almost certainly not true...

Hope the talk about Sanchez being a makeweight in the Suarez deal doesn't work against us. For a player of his quality it may wound his pride to be pushed to move to us with a sackful of cash, to help facilitate the Suarez move.

Because you don't think there's any referee bias (conscious or not), or because change of manager won't change the bias that exists?

This is clearly tempting fate, but do people genuinely expect to see more, err, even-handed refereeing now gin soak has gone? I do, if not in this match, then over the course of the season will be a few points lost for them there.
