This is the business end of the league and in my opinion, O'Neill has consistently failed to best the top managers around this period. Although I agree that his teams have lots of spirit and can cause upsets (mainly to Liverpool when he was managing Leicester!), the point I wnated to demonstrate is that in the CL, he'd be coming up against the likes of Anchelotti on a regular basis and will have no clue to to set his team up.

The plan this season was for the 'keeper and CB's to shift the ball to our fullbacks, rather than having one of our CM's drop deep to collect the ball (as only Alonso was really capable of performing that role with world class effectiveness).
