Benitez denies board rift

Rafa Benitez has shot down suggestions he is unhappy with the level of finance available to spend at Liverpool.

The Spaniard is fully focused on Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie with Benfica, live on Sky Sports 2, and is dismayed to read reports claiming he wants a £30 million transfer kitty to spend in the summer.

After making it clear that he has no problem with the Anfield board, the highly-respected coach is keen to rebuff speculation linking him with jobs at Real Madrid and Internazionale.

"I can say to you that I don't have any problems with the board, with the chairman or the chief executive," he told Sky Sports News. "Not any problems.

"I am happy here.

"The only thing I want is to do well and beat Benfica and, after that, I want to think about beating Arsenal."

Benitez wants nothing more than to overturn the one-goal first leg deficit against Portuguese giants Benfica before reverting his thoughts back to the Premiership game at the weekend.

"I am really focused on the Champions League game," he explained. "I'm not worried about other things.

"The only thing I am doing now is preparing for the game, talking with the players and trying to do my best in this case.

"They are really focused, we are really focused. We know how important the game is for us and the club and we will try to win this game"

Accoriding to sky news

Can't seen it anywhere on the site.

I haven't looked that hard

it goes without saying this denial isn't strong enough therefore there is obviously a problem, and he's either denied the rift too slowly or too quickly

Yeah but it took him ages to come out with that.

Then again, maybe it was too quick.

We must be able to read something into this!!!

While its good to hear Rafa is happy, you have to feel he is wasting his time making such statements. In another week or two we will hear all these stories again of Rafa being unhappy, demanding money, at odds with Parry / board. People just wont believe him or will ignore what he has said.

Why the hell hasn't he denied it in Italian and Spanish!

He's clearly only using England so as to placate us fans, whilst giving Inter and Madrid the shifty wink!

Well if the agenda-harbourers and wannabe agenda-setters on this board shut up for a while, that would be a start.

Yeah, and we weren't negotiating with Fowler either

I can just see the gutter press headlines if we get knocked out by Benfica tomorrow night.

"Liverpool not big enough to hold onto a manager as good as Benitez."

"Benitez will go to Madrid where he will have 100000000000000000000000 pounds to spend"

"Parry wont go so Benitez will". (Daily Post).

Please be quiet, you insufferable bore.

I'd imagine most posters here are as sick to the back teeth of your grand unsubstantiated pronouncements as I am.

We'd all be doubly disappointed if you chose now to start grasping at straws when your world class banging of your old drum has been refuted by the man himself.

I never expected the man to do anything other than refute it and never subscribed to the theory that he was just indirectly presurising the board - and have said so on various occasions - all of which means that my position has not changed and nothing has happened that would change it

and just to recap, I think there is a clear and present danger that Rafa will leave if he does not get significant financial support in the summer - that is all, that is all I've said - I do not know if it's a 50% chance or a 10% chance but it certainly is not no chance; but then sweet, simple souls who believe that everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds are a dying breed - don't ever change Dus, we'd really miss you

There is a danger that any manager would leave any club if he wasnt getting the backing he deserved. Theres nothing new in that. Was probably the same with GH. Has been the same for Ferguson. The same for Jewell. Any manager has to be kept happy. But there is no indication that Rafa hasnt had the backing he wants.

Rafa has said he has no problem. He has also many times said that he pulls the plug on transfers if the price is too high. I dont think that will change even if Rafa gets £50m to spend. He wont be ripped off and has said that numerous times.

There were not many people saying £6.3 million was a rip off for Morientes at the time!

I seem to recall when Morientes signed, the majority of fans raving about the signing, about getting such a class, proven player at European and international level for £6 mill, whereas Everton where spending the same on Beattie.

Hindsight is a great thing innit. If only Rafa had realised how chit he was going to be eh. Idiot that he is.

What is your problem with Crouchy's fee?? And why are you upping his fee for effect?

Fecin ell!
