Woodsyla
Ian Wright quits the BBC coverage. http://msn.football365.com/story/0,17033,8...3435030,00.html WRIGHTY QUITS THE BBC Reason to be cheerful: Ian Wright has quit the BBC's coverage of England games because he no longer wants to be the "court jester". Wright - who obviously wants to be taken more seriously in his role as presenter of Sky's Gladiators - has hit out at the "formal" coverage of England games favoured by the BBC. "Times are changing. I don't know how long young people are going to want to sit down and watch that same old 'jacket, shirt and tie' format," said Wright. "Fans want people who are dressed like them. "They've got no one to relate to on TV and that's why I've said to them I don't want to do the England games any more. "I feel like I'm just there as a comedy jester to break the ice with Alan Shearer and Alan Hansen who just do run-of-the-mill things. I can't do that anymore. People want something different." Andy @ Allerton
Was hoping they were going to annouce Wembley getting demolished and rebuilt where the majority of the country voted for it to be built.

CarraLegend
Wright is alright (excuse the pun) at least he cares, he's just a bit thick, Shearer is just the most incredibly boring person I have ever come across. He's like a living corpse.
Hassony
Wright is an idiot, he is also an awful TV presenter The BBC coverage is bad not because of the "suit and ties", but because nothing is usually said about the tactics, MON can be very funny but he is also a good pundit, Strachan the same Wright is neither a good pundit or as funny as he thinks he is

Gunga Din
the BBC punditry has gone right down the tubes in recent years. surely with all the interactive options available now, it wouldn't be hard to put people on an interactive option who actually want to talk about the game, instead of a bunch of w*****s who think they are the headline act at the wheeltappers and shunters
Gooner Spy
That was really bad! I have no idea how is still getting TV work! the only redeeming feature of that show was it enabled the hilarious Tony Adams and Caprice relationship to happen. Old red eyes
So if Wrighty had his way we'd have 4 chavs covered in bling doing the punditry. " Man wot a weeked tackle." " Am i bovvered. "
muleskinner
It's because 'Shaunie' won't be getting any more games. I'm quite pleased he won't be getting any more licence fee from the public, he adds nothing to the coverage whatsoever.

Rimbeux
They should loose this f***ing ridiculous addiction to high profile ex-pros as the basis for their coverage. They've got themselves into a position where much of the coverage is led by converted sportsmen rather than career journalists, and regardless of how well they come up to speed, there will always be a natural lack of objectivity without even going into the editorial reluctance to allow any level of debate. Wright was just a symptom of this. There are more than enough professional journalists, press or broadcast, whatever, with the chops to come in and really raise the level of coverage. Get them in, let everyone off the leash and away you go. Even on the leash, the career journalist will be able to provide a more objective opinion with the skill to steer a decent objective course between sitting on the fence, blindly backing someone and aimlessly slagging someone off, that too many ex-pros wont or cant even attempt. Precisely. It's not like any of the ex pros share any real insights anyway. Quality analysis is what's needed and unfortunately it's thin on the ground at the moment.
