haven't seen if this has been discussed before but here we go:

apparently we are setting up a switch for liverpool 'flop' aquilani for juventus flop Melo??

From what i have seen this season aquilani has been fairly decent when he is given game time and is not injured - he dominated a number of the matches he was given a start in and has shown alot of glimpses of what i think could be a great midfielder. Whats all this smack talk about him being a flop and us wanting to get rid of him????? I dont really know why our club insists on not giving players a proper chance (Keane)!! Yet we persist with Kuyt starting even when he is in the worst form of any player in the league.

Just a thought gets kinda frustrating reading about this sort of thing what do you guys think?

Its pretty easy for the media to label him a flop because he hasnt had any game time and he had a 20m price tag.

Obviously (hopefully) there is another reason he hasn't played, but if we don't sell him then, like you, I expect him to grow into a good player next season.

Its not just goal who have labelled him a flop - apparently everyone except for us think he is?

You think that one of our hardest working and better players (Kuyt) who has had a poor season by his own high standards (as has Gerrard and others) is a 'the worst form of any player in the league' and yet you're a fan - why should the media be any smarter than you about our players?

just becuase kuyt is hard working doesnt mean he was not in bad form --- kuyt was immune from rotation and played alot of games this season when his form was quite plainly terrible - im not saying hes a bad player but there were time there where he should have been dropped at least to the bench to give other players a shot and the only player in worse form might have been john terry but hs a scum bag so i was simply making the point that alot of players are given a bunch of chances but aqulani plays well then dropped then labelled a flop seems harsh......On the question of Aquilani was it a clear 20mill i thought it was considerably lower depending on how many games he played

The "flop" tag is not just aimed at the player. It's another stick to beat the manager with as the media continues their never ending quest to get Rafa fired.

There have been numerous other "questionable/dodgy" signings by all of the "big 4" but none have seemingly come under this kind of scrutiny.

Give the media a few days and they'll have the World Cup warm ups to chew over.

I like Aquilani. He's clearly a good player. However, as things stand no one can have a go if the outside world perceives his move to Liverpool to have been'a flop'. The managers limited selection of him is what has led to that label being attached to him. If anyone appears to have deemed AA a flop, it's Rafa. Of course,he may use him abundantly next season, but the signs have been that he simply doesn't trust or rate him in the position he was brought for.

Berbatov springs to mind

His injury record.

He's never going to be fit enough over a season to be a major player.

From that point of view he was an odd signing and as i've said before we'd have got more value from a bread and butter central midfielder.

Apart from arriving injured what other injury has he had? I know he was ill the one week but since recovering I can't think of another time he's not been available.

Him not playing was more down to the manager rather than fitness.

I've got big hopes for him next season. The last couple of games he showed massive amounts of promise and in one or two games he ran the show. Potentially a top player for us, letting him go would be stupidity unless he is the only saleable asset other than the big guns.

Whatever happened to giving a player new to the league a season to settle in. Anyone remeber Thierry Henry's first season at Highbury?

I really like him, we're a completely different team with him on the park. He makes those around him play better because his movement and use of the ball is better than anyone else in the team bar Gerrard and Torres.

For every Henry (who was quite good in his first year, just not boss) and Pires, there are 20 who come over and don't fit in and don't turn it round
