Dominus Maximus Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Well Roy just confirmed it. I guess he deserves his own thread. So he is 30 years old and has recently played for Juventus. He has been there since 2008 and before that he played two years in Spain in Sevilla. As a regular for Sevilla he scored four goals. His move to Sevilla was engineered through four years of hard work in Schalke 04 who had snapped him up from FC Copenhagen four year before. He is a defensive midfielder who specializes in breaking up the flow of the opponent team. While Mascherano dives into tackles Poulsen is far more slow but may provide more physicality. He is good in the air and has scored more than a handful important goals for the Danish national team. Along with Agger and Bendtner, Poulsen is the biggest star in Denmark. Poulsen can occasionally deliver a sweet pass but mostly you use him in front of your defense and to protect the flanks for when your fullbacks are attacking. He has a mean temper, best illustrated by the infamous Denmark-Sweden game i 2007. Very important classic qualifier against old foes from Sweden Denmark went down 3-0 at halftime. After a crazy comeback the score was 3-3 four minutes from time. But during a Swedish cornerkick four minutes from time, Poulsen was caught punching former HSV-striker Marcus Rosenberg in stomach. The ref gave Sweden a penalty and what happened afterwards was just such a shame. In EURO2004 Poulsen was also a receiver of a Totti-spat. Afterwards Totti said that Poulsen was the most despicable player he has ever faced, whatever that means. Now he is in Liverpool, so enjoy.
Dominus Maximus Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Has Roy confirmed it? According to Michael Qureshi who writes for B.T. in Denmark, Roy confirmed at the press conference today, that it was only a matter of details, and that it will be done this week.
Tones Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 So is he going to be a replacement for Masch? Does this mean Masch is going?
Dan Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 According to Michael Qureshi who writes for B.T. in Denmark, Roy confirmed at the press conference today, that it was only a matter of details, and that it will be done this week. Was he speaking in Danish? Why is it not being reported anywhere esle?
Dominus Maximus Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 http://www.sporten.dk/fodbold/liverpool-ja-vi-forhandler-med-poulsen Its in the transfer thread as well.
Walrus Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Just seen the press conference on the official site and Roy didn't comment on Poulsen at all. Just gave the standard reply along the lines of: "working at a big club, you're always going to be linked with a lot of different players every day etc."

Zoob Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 regardless of possible take over or not, Poulsen would be a massive, massive downgrade. Fair enough it we use part of the money on a striker or some other position, but I think we could still do that, and get someone better than Poulsen.
Buzz Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) Are we going for 'play someone who looks like abit like Lucas to confuse the opposition', tatics next season? Are we going to have a team of lookeelikees next year? Is that a Roy tatic? Edited August 4, 2010 by Buzz
Dominus Maximus Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Michael Qureshi email: miq@sporten.dk Ask him. Well I just did. Roy held three conferences. One for TV, one for Radio and one for Newspapers.
Tones Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Get Flamini in! Rumoured to be available for roughly the same price isnt he?
Kring Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I'm Danish and have seen him play quite a lot. Let me say this as loud as I can. The guy is not good enough for Liverpool. He's careless with the ball. Has no eye for a pass and he's slow. Yes he has positives but they are by far overshadowed by negatives...He is at best mediocre! He is also disliked by most opponents for some reason. He must be doing or saying something on the pitch that makes him one of the most hated players (by other players) in European football.
Sion Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Dour, ageing Scandanavian signing to replace a world class player. We joked about this but I didn't think it would actually happen. He's really no better than Lucas, at all.

He's really no better than Lucas, at all. I dont mind Poulsen at all. I think Gerrard will replace Masch in the middle and Poulsen is a bloody good player to have as third choice. Aquilani is in the mix as well. Poulsen is only 30 as well. No spring bunny but hardly 'old' for his position. Edited August 4, 2010 by carrafan

Stop this shyte...Masch wants to go..we get Poulsen in to play the holding role in midfield together with Gerrard..AND..we get 20 m to spend on some areas we're weak in...LB and support for Torres.f*'' sake
CarraLegend Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 He's like a Danish Michael Essien, just without being constantly crocked.
Dan Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has admitted he is interested in signing Juventus' Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen. The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for Poulsen as they consider replacements for wantaway midfielder Javier Mascherano. Juventus are thought to be willing to let Poulsen move on as he is currently down the pecking order in new coach Luigi Del Neri's plans. Hodgson is a big fan of Poulsen having worked with him during his time in charge of FC Copenhagen and he feels he would be a valuable addition to his squad at Anfield. "If we can sign him from Juventus at a price I consider reasonable, he will be a very good player to bring into our team," Hodgson told Ekstra Bladet. "Christian is a player I know well, a player whose career I actually kick-started many years ago and I have followed him closely ever since."

Dan Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Presumably our interest in Defour is dependant on a takeover then
Lee W Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 He's like a Danish Michael Essien, just without being constantly crocked. ....and only half as good
