Nice one Cyril
1920 - Forward Cyril Done was born in Liverpool. He signed from Bootle Boys Brigade in January 1938 and struck 37 times in 110 reds games, helping us to the League title in 1947 and the FA Cup Final three years later. He moved to Tranmere Rovers in May 1952, scoring nearly a century of goals for them and Port Vale.
Anfield goalkeeping debutants
Two reds custodians have made their first-team debuts in top-flight fixtures at Anfield on this day.
1950 - Russell Crossley made his reds bow in our goalless draw with Middlesbrough.
1933 - We also faced Boro, when Sam English netted in our 4-1 defeat at Ayresome Park. George Camsell struck two of his nine goals against the reds, with Charlie Ferguson also nabbing a brace.
1905 - Sam Hardy debuted as we beat Nottingham Forest 4-1, with all our goals coming in the first half courtesy of Jack Cox, Sam Raybould, Robert Robinson and Joe Hewitt.
1972 - Gordon Banks put in an outstanding performance for Stoke City. Jimmy Greenhoff opened the scoring with one of his five strikes against the reds, with our equaliser coming about when Banks was penalised for taking too many steps with the ball, with Emlyn Hughes converting from the resultant indirect free-kick inside the area in his 300th reds game. Ian Callaghan’s long-rage strike was deflected off Eric Skeels in the last minute to hand us 2-1 victory. However, Banks was involved in a terrible car accident the next day that resulted in him losing the sight in one eye.
Other birthdays
1959 - Kevin Sheedy was born in Builth Wells in Wales. He scored twice in his five reds appearances after signing from Hereford United for £80,000 in July 1978, before moving on to greater things across Stanley Park with the Blues.
1967 - Paul Ince was born in Ilford. He played 81 games in his two years at Anfield after signing from Internazionale for £4.2m in July 1997, scoring seventeen times. However, his best days were behind him, and Gérard Houllier shipped him off to Middlesbrough within a year of taking charge, due to his unruly influence.
1965 – Keeper Mark Gayle was born in Bromsgrove. He joined on loan from Crewe Alexandra in February 1994, sitting on the bench three times before returning to Gresty Road.

Tons up
1978 - Bob Paisley secured his hundredth League victory as reds boss as goals from David Johnson and Kenny Dalglish gave us a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Anfield. This was Bob’s 179th League game as Manager, five games fewer than it took Bill Shankly to achieve the same feat, many of whose wins came in the Second Division.
2000 - Emile Heskey bagged the only goal of the game against his former club as we secured our hundredth home Premiership win, against Leicester City.
Disposable Razor

1922 - Harry Chambers netted both goals as England beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in the same competition at The Hawthorns. Meanwhile, we beat Cardiff City 3-1 in a top-flight match at Anfield that was also a benefit game for reds forward Billy Lacey, as he was ruled out for two months with injury. Cyril Gilhespy, Dick Forshaw and Walter Wadsworth struck for the reds after the break, with the latter netting his eighth and last goal for the club.

2019 – Jack Bearne signed on as a professional. He made his senior bow in our EFL Cup Quarter-final at Aston Villa two months later.
